Magic Jack is an inexpensive gadget that you plug into your computer's usb port to be able to make free local and long distance calls to the United States and Canada. The company is in its infancy though so do not expect too much out of this new phone system. I don't recommend replacing your landline telephone with it unless you have used it for a year or so without problems, and maybe not even then. You can purchase a Magic Jack from the official website but if you think you might have to return it buy it from a place like Best Buy, Radio Shack, Wal-Mart or even Walgreen's.

If you're on the fence about purchasing a Magic Jack, hop off and buy it! You only need two things: 1-a computer. You're reading this online, so you obviously have a computer. (If you're using a public or your work or friends computer, then disregard this). 2-a high speed internet connection. You must have an internet connection like broadband, dsl, wi-fi, etc. No dial-up or satellite internet, those don't work with Magic Jack. If you are already spending money on buying a computer and paying for internet, what's another $40 to see if it will work for you? Try it out right away and if it doesn't work get a refund!

Yes! And most of the time it works really well. That's not to say it doesn't have its problems, because it does but those mostly can be solved by a little tweaking or research on the subject. One of the most common problems you'll find is that your Magic Jack internet phone will work great at first and then after a month or two it will start giving you problems. It will not load properly or take an unusually long time to load. Then you may start getting error messages or the softphone screen won't appear at all. Usually getting an a/c powered usb hub to plug your device into will solve your problem.

Just a heads-up for those of you who are going to order your Magic Jack from the official website. Your 30 days starts the minute you order. You could lose up to a week or more waiting for it to arrive. Then if you decide to return it, you must fill out an authorization form at their website and get an approval to return the magic jack. The magic jack has to be received back by the company by the end of the 30 days for you to get your money refunded. So your 30-day “free” trial gives you only a week or so to really try it out.

It is easy to install, just takes a few minutes and then you are set to start making calls. Keep in touch with your family and friends that live away without breaking the bank. If they live in another country other than the United States or Canada, all you need to do is buy them a Magic Jack and mail it to them and then you both can call each other as much as you want!
